Premises Safety Pack

Check your premises, look at what could go wrong, report problems and review the month, all in one binder.

Pages for the regular checks, the risk assessments, the near misses and the monthly review, so there's one place that shows you looked, found something and fixed it. You decide what to check and how often, from your own assessment.

These pages record the checks you carry out. Your own risk assessment decides what to check and how often. They don't tell you what the law requires of you.

These are the A4 working designs, shown as the upper-left half of each page. You see the full sheet in the pack. The paper, punching and final layout are confirmed before the first print run.

A worked example

A month with the pack.

Every pack includes a made-up example, with the sheets filled in, so you can see how they fit together before you start.

Check

A walkaround finds boxes stacked by a side exit. They're moved the same day and the action is written down.

Tell and act

A near miss is reported on a page with no personal details. The cause: nowhere agreed for deliveries.

Assess

The risk assessment is updated: who could get hurt, what's already in place, and what more is needed.

Review

The monthly review shows nine checks done, two actions closed, and one pattern to fix.

Questions people ask

The answers, whether or not you buy the pack.

Do I have to write down a risk assessment?

If you employ five or more people, the HSE says you must record your significant findings: the hazards, who might be harmed and how, and what you're doing about it. With fewer than five you don't have to, but it's still worth writing down so you can review it when things change.

What is a risk assessment, in plain English?

A careful look at what could cause harm where you work, who could be hurt, and whether what you already do is enough. If it isn't, you decide what more to do, and when. The point is to control the risks in real life, not to fill a folder.

What counts as a near miss, and should I record it?

A near miss is something that could have hurt someone, but didn't. Write it down: what happened, where, and what you changed. It's how you find the cause before someone gets hurt. You don't need to name anyone.

How often should I check my premises?

It depends on your premises, your equipment and your own risk assessment, so there's no single answer. These pages give you somewhere to record each check, and you write in how often you do it.

What is a workplace walkaround, and who should do it?

A regular look round the place to spot hazards: blocked exits, trailing cables, damaged floors, missing signs. Anyone who knows the premises can do it. Write down what you found, who's fixing it and by when.

Do these sheets replace health and safety advice?

No. They record the checks you carry out. They don't tell you what the law requires, which depends on your premises and what you do. If you're not sure what you must do, start with the HSE guidance or ask a competent adviser.

About the packs

Before you join the list.

Is this A4 or A5?

Both. The packs are made for A4 four-ring binders and A5 six-ring binders, pre-punched and double-sided. The pages shown here are the A4 designs. Tell us on the waitlist which size you want; your answers help decide which size is printed first.

What paper is it printed on?

We're choosing the paper and checking the punching with a printer. The paper and hole positions will be confirmed before the first run.

How do you decide which packs get printed first?

By how many people ask for them. When you join the waitlist you can choose as many packs as you like, and tell us which one you would want first.

Can I buy the refills separately?

Yes, that's the plan. Each pack is a starter set with a few of every sheet. The ones people use up are marked as refills, and will be sold separately, so you only reorder what you use.

Where do you deliver?

The United Kingdom to start with.

Is this legal or compliance advice?

No. These are blank record sheets designed by Clare Langley. They are independent and are not published, endorsed or approved by any regulator, standards body or certification body. Using them does not make an organisation compliant with any law or standard. You decide what to record, how long to keep it and how to store it securely. Check current guidance for your own setting.
